Sustainability

Who we are

We apply decades of experience to furthering our contribution to the imperative of sustainability.

We lament the social and environmental crises caused by man-made climate change. We are acutely conscious that wrong choices in made in food production can significantly increase the threat to the planet.

After energy production, agriculture is the largest contributor to global warming

It emits more greenhouse gases annually than all other forms of transport combined. Nitrous oxide from fertilized fields, methane released by cattle and rice farms, and carbon dioxide from the destruction of rain forests to grow crops or raise livestock all add to the problem. Deforestation and degrading of grassland for farms also accelerates biodiversity and habitat loss, making agriculture a major factor in wildlife extinction.

A world demanding more

By 2050 the world’s population will likely increase by more than 35 percent

To feed that population, crop production will need to double.

The growing need for food worldwide means that these huge environmental issues only become more pressing as we try to meet demand. By 2050, the global population is expected to reach more than nine billion. This growth also comes with changing habits and elevated prosperity – especially in India and China, increasing demand for eggs, meat, and dairy products. More soy and corn will be required to feed ever more cattle, pigs and chickens. The combination of richer diets and a growing population seemingly requires us to double our projected global crop yield by 2050.

Carfax Commodities acknowledges the importance of investing in sustainable business practices

Doing social good can no longer be some platitude in a company’s glossy prospectus. It is critical for organisations like ours rise to the challenge of serving a social purpose. Prosperity in the long we cannot be solely defined by financial performance. We are compelled to demonstrate our positive contribution to our community too. Carfax must benefit all our stakeholders, employees and customers.

We recognize the need to monitor and manage sustainability. Towards this aim, Carfax has set out a sustainability directive to be incorporated into the working lives of all our employees.

We appreciate the imminent threat to the planet by future food production. The growing need for food worldwide means that these huge environmental issues only become more pressing as we try to meet demand. By 2050, the global population is expected to reach more than nine billion, but this increase also comes with changing habits and elevated prosperity.

We honour the earth, the fruits of the earth and the labour of those who provide these vital fruits for the benefit of humanity. We seek fruitful relationships with our suppliers and clients as our contribution to the wellbeing of society.
